Planet Weather for the Week
of December 2, 2007
"Fare
forward, voyagers."
--T.S. Eliot
SkyWatch – Moon phase
of the week: The Moon undergoes no change of phase this week! This is one of
those rare weeks that happen a couple of times every
year. There are close to seven days between phase changes, so that they usually
occur about once a week. Occasionally there are none and sometimes there are
two changes in a week. This time, the Moon entered her Last Quarter phase on
the last day of last week and enters her New cycle on
the first day of next week. Stay tuned! Skywatching
events of the week: 12/5 -- The Moon's first planetary contact (and only
visible one) this week comes when She passes Venus, with their point of closest
approach coming about 2:30 PM EST, when Venus will not be visible from the U.S.
By the following morning, the Moon will have moved quite a bit past Venus but
the sight of them together in the early morning sky before sunrise is always beautiful
and worthwhile. Space news of the week: Shocking news! This week, the space
probe Voyager 2 is due to cross what is called the "termination
shock," the spherical shell around the solar system that marks where the
solar wind slows down to subsonic speed. This point, roughly 8 billion miles
out, is sometimes considered the boundary of interstellar space. So you could
say, at this point, Voyager 2 will become a true starship of human hope.
Amazingly, Voyager 2, launched in 1977 -- that's thirty years ago, folks -- is
still operational and still returning data. Continued bon voyage, Voyager! Go
out! Look up!
Knowing when VOC Moons occur is key to planning your successful week!
The Void-of-course (VOC) Moon is
a kind of limbo. As it reaches the end of a sign, the Moon makes no major
aspect to another planet before it enters the next sign. VOC is best for less
outcome-oriented activity, since VOC often means detours, distractions, drifting,
or delays. If you want specific outcomes, or if timeliness is critical, don’t
use a VOC Moon time. VOC is best for processing, imagining, creating, and
open-ended activities, like parties, research, or cleaning your desk/closet for
instance! It is said that when a new action is initiated during VOC, “nothing
will come of it,” or energies go in unplanned directions, which may not
necessarily be negative.

Week of 12/2/07 – Sunday, Monday, Wednesday
and Thursday are the most active energetically and potentially most productive days
– more Moon aspects for engagement and/or producing results. On 12/2/07, the
Moon is VOC/Virgo from 9:12PM to 1:01AM EST (12/3/07) – on 12/5/07, VOC/Libra
from 9:48AM to 1:31PM EST – on 12/7/07,
VOC/Scorpio from 5:17AM to 2:11AM EST (12/8/07) – a long VOC!
PlanetPatterns:
The following planetary energy patterns flavor the day
and are felt or experienced often hours before and after their exact
culmination. They remain effective, certainly until the next major planetary
pattern comes along to shift the energy gears.
Venus in cardinal, air Libra sextile (60deg.) Jupiter in mutable, fire Sagittarius @
26deg. on 12/2/07 @ 3:14AM EST. This
is Venus week, with Venus making more connections with other planets than any
other planet. So – be cooperative and gracious and look for the balance in your
life or how to rectify unbalanced situations. There’s opportunity with this
aspect to make positive, generous and prosperous connections with others. It
just takes a bit of stepping into the other person’s shoes or life situation.
Use your understanding and give generously whatever you can – observe positive
energies returning to you.
Venus in cardinal, air Libra sextile Pluto/Sagittarius @ 28deg. on 12/2/07 @ 3:14AM EST.
Venus uses the Plutonian
energies of x-ray vision in its engagement with others, enabling you to
understand what may motivate others in their interactions with you. Understanding
where someone is coming from is very valuable information in any interaction
you may wish to have.
Venus enters fixed, water Scorpio on 12/5/07
@ 8:29AM EST, until 12/30/07. Venus
gets more serious and at times suspicious because this Venus wants to know
everything – so don’t plan to keep any secrets from your significant others.
Venus in Scorpio is excellent for ferreting out the source of issues and researching
needs and desires. It typically gets what it wants because it is persistently
consistent!
Mercury in mutable, fire Sagittarius
square (90deg.) Saturn in mutable, earth Virgo @ 8deg. on 12/6/07 @ 4:16PM EST.
Saturn will weed out your
outlandish ideas and any that don’t appear to have a chance of survival or
practical application. Conversations take a more serious turn and could even be
critical. If you want to sell something, be sure you present it well and have a
plan in place. You or others may have trouble listening, since there is a
tendency to have already made up your mind. Take notice of this, as you could
miss something very important if your ears are closed to new information.
Sun/Sagittarius square Uranus in
mutable, water Pisces @ 14deg. on 12/7/07 @ 7:36PM EST. This closing-square cycle between the Sun and Uranus
began last March with the conjunction and now we get another adjustment before
the next conjunction in March 08. We’re asked to recalibrate our truth in
keeping with our soul’s intention or purpose, provided we have acknowledged or
understood what that is. We will be given clues – in the form of surprises and
unusual, abrupt, and unexpected circumstances. Look beneath the oddities and
chance encounters or unplanned happenings in your life for cosmic clues to
living a more authentic life.
Mars Retrograde (Rx) in cardinal, water
Cancer sextile Saturn/Virgo @ 8 deg. on 12/8/07 @
11:01PM EST. Mars meets up with
Saturn for the second time – this time during Mars’ retrograde motion. Have you
made promises or commitments – and how are you doing with those? Mars Rx may
uncover some more clues that will help in your efforts to plan, organize, and
corral your runaway life. Decisions have to be made about emotional, family, or
home concerns. Saturn in Virgo allows you to sort through the details and
maintain practical guidelines in the midst of emotional situations. Tune in to
Saturn’s assistance and get the help that is available to make your plan solid
and real. Realize that it may take more time than usual, since Mars is retrograde.
** Mars turned retrograde on 11/15/07
@ 12deg. Cancer @ 3:24AM EST! Mars entered cardinal, water Cancer on 9/28/07. Mars re-enters the previous sign, Gemini, on 12/31/07, and turns
direct @ 24deg. Gemini on 1/31/08. Mars re-enters Cancer on 3/5/08, and
then remains in Cancer until 5/10/08.
NewsBits: Mars in High Focus! For
the next two weeks (through 12/16), Mars is separate from the rest of the group
of planets. In the sky, the planets are arranged in a pattern called, the Bucket
(9 planets grouped within 180 degrees and 1 lone planet positioned almost exactly
opposite the other 9, forming a sort of handle). Mars during this time is the
handle of that bucket, the lone planet, set apart from the others. Because Mars
is retrograde, we can say that the handle is unstable and the contents of the
bucket are likely to be spilled. What this means in the water sign of Cancer,
is that things are really spilling-out – our emotional selves are up for
scrutiny and there are fragile environments (personally and mundanely). Some
feelings may be difficult to pin down, understand, or interpret. We may be in
fear or denial, and that too may be made clearer during this time. Because we
are more sensitive to whatever touches us close to home, we may also be more
defensive and protective. We become even more aware of the necessity to care or
suffer consequences and tears in the family of mankind. Of course there are already
tears, there have been for a long time – and yet, it is during this time that we
will experience the consequences of disregard of basic human rights and basic
nurturing and caretaking, more than ever before. A threshold has been reached
and we need to pay closer attention. The only way to begin is with our closest
circles – those people who are nearest and dearest. One recent example in the
world at large is the hostage situation at the campaign headquarters of Hillary
Clinton in NH. This event hit close to home and to the stability of Clinton’s
headquarters and created distress for everyone involved. The question remains –
how do we secure our most vulnerable selves or environments? This is a question
that we will be debating in numerous ways in the years to come. How can we
maintain security and take action, not based on fear but on the recognition of
the right of every human being to feel safe, to belong, to be nurtured, and to
exist in environments that support positive growth and happiness?
