Planet Weather for the Week of November 16, 2008
NewsBits! The Man for the Times! Barack Hussein Obama is a unique man beginning with
his name, then his parentage, then his life story up to the present. Rarely has
the world agreed on anything but it does seem to agree that the election of
Barack Obama is a distinct and profound moment in time. In his person, he
embodies and expresses where we need to be in consciousness – an understanding
of a blended heritage, equality, and equal opportunity for all humanity. Obama
is a true hybrid for the 21st Century – as we make important social,
economic, and spiritual transitions – he is a living model and symbol of the
next steps in human evolution. The world has heard this message and has responded
with enthusiastic approval. This is not to say that pockets of resistance don’t
still exist. They do, but the majority will prevails.
In looking at US Election Day
further, we can understand the dynamics that elected Obama and the main
planetary patterns that will define the first few years of his Presidency.
Saturn/Virgo was 180deg. opposite Uranus/Pisces in the sky and exact for the
first of 5 times on Election Day. There will be two more exact oppositions in
2009, and the final two in 2010, ending on 7/26/10. This is a huge celestial
message and the configuration has numerous meanings and will have many
manifestations. We offer some of them: Saturn, the prevailing structure or paradigm,
meets Uranus, the energy that shatters and brings in an original infusion.
There is an awakening (Uranus) to what we may have taken for granted or counted
on for support (Saturn). Put in the simplest of terms – the old and new face
off. It’s also a challenge of viability – whatever is no longer working (on any
level) must change and Uranus, the change agent, is very willing to break the
pattern. Uranus is also a catalyst, an innovator seeding consciousness and
provoking shifts in thinking – shockwaves that do, at times, break existing
structures (Saturn) apart. Because Obama was elected with the first of this
series of aspects, this also becomes his mandate – to assess the current state
of things, the structural foundations, and to bring innovation and a higher
level of awareness to the pressing issues at hand. His campaign already
exhibited these patterns. His Internet campaign was savvy in mobilizing a grassroots
movement, fund-raising, and the volunteerism he forged via his website, was a
phenomenon never seen before. Here’s where we add the signs of Virgo and Pisces
where Saturn and Uranus are currently located and where 4 of the 5 oppositions
will take place. The fifth occurs in Aries/Libra. Virgo/Pisces is the axis of efficient
functioning, work and daily schedules, health habits and well-being, and
physical/spiritual balance. We’ve seen many systems fail recently, and it will
take a great deal of innovation and hard work to bring things back on track.
Doesn’t it make sense that things break because change is needed, or the system
in place can no longer support the incoming paradigm? Lastly, Jupiter is in
Capricorn for Obama’s win – expressing, among other things, accountability,
responsibility, ethics, and the willingness to meet the challenges ahead, and a
certain exuberance to create order and find fulfillment in a job well done. The
people decided who was best equipped to meet these needs and fit the above
definitions.
SkyWatch: Moon phase of the week: 11/19 -- The Moon
enters her Last (aka Third) Quarter phase at 4:31 PM EST, at 27 degrees of Leo.
Skywatching events of the week: 11/17 -- The Leonid
meteors peak about 5 AM. Unfortunately, a Disseminating Moon entering the sign
of Leo just precedes the constellation Leo (where the Leonids
appear to "radiate"), spoiling the spectacle. 11/18 -- The Disseminating
Moon passes the Beehive star cluster just before dawn when the Moon is high
overhead. (A star cluster is a kind of "mini-galaxy" orbiting our
Milky Way galaxy.) Space News of the Week: We have ignition, we have liftoff!
The Space Shuttle Endeavor successfully launched and achieved orbit this
past week in preparation for a rendezvous with the International Space Station
(ISS). Among other missions, Endeavor astronauts plan to install a new toilet
on the ISS. The theme of this mission is, evidently, "home
improvement"! Go out! Look up!
Knowing when VOC Moons occur is key to planning your successful week!
The Void-of-course (VOC) Moon is
a kind of limbo. As it reaches the end of a sign, the Moon makes no major
aspect to another planet before it enters the next sign. VOC is best for less
outcome-oriented activity, since VOC often means detours, distractions, drifting,
or delays. If you want specific outcomes, or if timeliness is critical, don’t
use a VOC Moon time. VOC is best for processing, imagining, creating, and
open-ended activities, like parties, research, or cleaning your desk/closet for
instance! It is said that when a new action is initiated during VOC, “nothing
will come of it,” or energies go in unplanned directions, which may not
necessarily be negative.

Week of 11/16/08 – Sunday, Wednesday,
Friday, and Saturday are the most active energetically and potentially very
productive days – more Moon or planetary aspects for engagement with others or
projects, and/or producing results. On 11/17/08, the Moon is VOC/Cancer from 8:43AM
to 4:07PM EST – On 11/19/08, the Moon is VOC/Leo from 7:47PM to 8:13PM EST— On
11/22/08, the Moon is VOC/Virgo from 3:02AM EST to 3:20AM EST.
PlanetPatterns:
The following planetary energy patterns flavor the day
and are felt or experienced often hours before and after their exact
culmination. They remain effective, certainly until the next major planetary
pattern comes along to shift the energy gears.
Mercury in fixed, water Scorpio is
making the rounds, meeting with Uranus, Jupiter and Saturn on 11/ 16/08 and
completes with a connection to Neptune on 11/17/08. All these connections within two days makes for some
intense mental energy and possibly some frayed synapses with all that thought
processing. We don’t remember a time when there was this cluster of Mercurial
aspects in such a short time. It’s as if we are attempting to figure out
something quite complex in our lives, in the world. Mercury’s meetings with
Uranus, Jupiter and Saturn are easier aspects and represent awareness,
exhilaration, cautious optimism, and sifting and sorting to reach priorities.
It is the last aspect, a square between Mercury and Neptune that may undo what
seemed to be resolved. Neptune has a way of doing that, of casting doubt and
blurring the edges to have you look beyond, into the spiritual dimensions,
rather than the temporal ones. Perhaps the message is to soften your attitudes
and let things develop in their own time. Patience!
Mars enters mutable, fire Sagittarius on
11/16/08 @ 3:27AM EST until 12/27/08. Assertiveness takes on a new cloak, that of the swashbuckling
Sagittarius. This spirited, inspired, eternally positive energy will have to
negotiate the ruins of the economy. Its normal inclination to expand and wander
will be curbed and strained as it moves in hard aspects between Saturn and
Uranus and feels the restraint to its wanton and often boundless adventuring.
The lesson here is to understand what exactly is worth pursuing and
experiencing and what is better left unexplored and not worth the time and effort.
More than anything this Mars must learn to prioritize because it is prone to
want it all, and want it now.
Jupiter in cardinal, earth Capricorn
trine Saturn in mutable, earth Virgo @ 20deg. on 11/21/08@ 7:14AM EST. Several weeks after the first of five Saturn/Uranus
oppositions, Jupiter now expands the energies released. Jupiter in Saturn’s
sign making a smooth, easier aspect to Saturn accentuates the theme of
regaining stability from system breakdown and the emergence of a new leader.
The possibility is inherent in the aspect to find opportunity amidst the chaos
and reformulate solutions with basic, old-fashioned economic principles.
Looking back at the progression of steps that brought us to these crises
collectively and personally will help to forge a stronger and more durable
future foundation.
The Sun enters Sagittarius on 11/21/08 @
5:44PM EST until 12/21/08. In
normal (?) years, the Sun’s entrance into Sagittarius brought the joyous yet
frenzied and often stressed activity of preparations for multiple holidays.
This year, with Jupiter, ruler of Sagittarius, in Saturn-ruled Capricorn,
clearly there is a more subdued tone in the air. Minimalism is suddenly in
vogue. There are ways to celebrate and reasons to celebrate, always, and ones
that don’t need to involve huge exaggeration and excess. This is the first year
since 1995, that the Sun in Sagittarius will not conjunct Pluto, which will help
free Sagittarius from various excesses, obsessions, and its own shadow – the
results of which are in clear evidence.
