Planet Weather for the Week of November 9, 2008
NewsBits! The Obama Presidency! It’s a new era, nothing short of a miracle. We’ve
turned a page in American history. Planet
Weather has maintained an Obama win for many months. There’s great relief
from the depression that many of us have been used to these last 8 years. Every
day now, we awaken and wonder if it’s real – is Obama really the
President-elect of the United States! These, of course, are the afterglow days,
followed by the honeymoon stage (after the Inauguration), when Obama can do no
wrong, and all is possible, hope is alive, in a brave new world to resolve old
and insistent mega-problems. What will an Obama Presidency be like? Let’s look
first at the chart when CNN announced that Barack Obama had won the necessary
electoral votes. That was 11/4/08 @ 10PM CST, Chicago, IL (where Obama was
awaiting the results with his family and team). The Moon was at nearly 2
Aquarius conjunct the Descendent (House 7 and the horizon) of the 3 Leo rising
chart. The Moon was also nearly exactly opposite Obama’s birth Mercury @ 2 Leo.
The angles of this time were opposite Obama’s birth chart horizon angles of
Aquarius/Leo. The Moon in Aquarius on Election night was the same Moon as that
of the United States. All of this signified a perfect combination of the new
rising star of the American collective. Aquarius/Leo expresses the creative,
inspired, authentic, and heartfelt part of the collective drama. Obama’s star
had risen to the ultimate in American politics. Obama’s progressed Moon is in
Aquarius and in two months at the time of the Inauguration will reach Obama’s
Ascendant @18 Aquarius exactly. The Aquarian Moon repetition in these charts
indicates the mood of the people that is being projected onto Obama, of someone
who is authentic, truthful, an advanced consciousness, one with perspective and
a refreshing outlook of creative invention. He has these qualities and surely
feels the burden of this kind of hope he has inspired in the culture not only
in America but all over the world. People were in tears at the possibilities
that were evoked by this election and for the moment America is once again
redeemed in the eyes of the international community. Of course, not everyone is
as ecstatic about Obama’s ascendency, and there are dangerous combinations in
the sky that could threaten this newly minted President. He wins with the full
and complex combination of Mars/Scorpio square Neptune/Aquarius also exact on
11/4/08. The US has a Mars/Neptune square in its birth chart too, and we see yet
another repetition of intrinsically American character for this election. Mars
square Neptune is idealistic, sensitive, magical, but can also be confused by
projecting glamour and perfection onto others, often failing to take a
realistic look at people or situations, or taking responsibility for what is
happening and suffering disappointment and disillusionment. Obama offers a bit
of redemption that is also part of this aspect – that says sometimes when we
believe, it can be true. However, the work has to be done in a unified process
by all of us collaborating together to make it happen. I think that is what
Obama has been saying all along – a very different message than that of the
previous 8 years. More analysis of the Obama Presidency in
subsequent issues of PW.
SkyWatch: Moon
phase of the week: 11/13 -- The Moon reaches perfect fullness at 1:17 AM EST,
at 21 degrees of Taurus when She will be high overhead and perfect for viewing,
as well as in the sign of Her exaltation and nearly as close as She ever gets
to Earth. This Full Moon is known in folklore as the Beaver Moon. The critters
are busy preparing for winter. Skywatching events of
the week: 11/14 -- This week is all about the Moon. In addition to being Full,
the Moon also reaches perigee, Her point of absolute closest approach to the
Earth, when She will be a mere 223,000 miles high, give or take. Since this is
just after Full Moon, She should shine especially brightly as well as raising
higher tides than usual. These large high tides are known, appropriately, as
"perigean tides." Space news of the week: Chandrayaan 1, India's first deep space mission, just
entered lunar orbit after a lengthy journey from the launch pad to the vicinity
of the Moon. "Chandra" is the beautiful Hindu name for the Moon. Go
out! Look up!
Knowing when VOC Moons occur is key to planning your successful week!
The Void-of-course (VOC) Moon is
a kind of limbo. As it reaches the end of a sign, the Moon makes no major
aspect to another planet before it enters the next sign. VOC is best for less
outcome-oriented activity, since VOC often means detours, distractions, drifting,
or delays. If you want specific outcomes, or if timeliness is critical, don’t
use a VOC Moon time. VOC is best for processing, imagining, creating, and
open-ended activities, like parties, research, or cleaning your desk/closet for
instance! It is said that when a new action is initiated during VOC, “nothing
will come of it,” or energies go in unplanned directions, which may not
necessarily be negative.

Week of 11/9/08 – Tuesday, Wednesday,
and Thursday are the most active energetically and potentially very productive days
– more Moon or planetary aspects for engagement with others or projects, and/or
producing results. On 11/9/08, the Moon is VOC/Pisces from 11:28AM to 12:26PM
EST – On 11/11/08, the Moon is VOC/Aries from 2:17PM to 3:05PM EST— On
11/13/08, the Moon is VOC/Taurus from 12:13PM EST to 3:11PM EST – On 11/15/08,
the Moon is VOC/Gemini from 2:17PM EST to 2:52PM EST.
PlanetPatterns:
The following planetary energy patterns flavor the day
and are felt or experienced often hours before and after their exact
culmination. They remain effective, certainly until the next major planetary
pattern comes along to shift the energy gears.
The Sun in
fixed, water Scorpio sextile (60deg.) Jupiter in
cardinal, earth Capricorn @ 18deg. @ 3:55AM EST and Sun/Scorpio trine (120deg.)
Uranus in mutable, water Pisces @ 4:21PM EST, both @ 18deg. on 11/10/08. Both of
these aspects provide an evenness and opportunity for finding solutions to
pressing issues. They both connote a sense of optimism and forward-thinking –
an oasis in the midst of economic turmoil. There seems to be a glimpse into the
future and some clear organizational patterns, that can provide a calmer
climate as we shift, change gears, and move into the next 16 years of Pluto in
Capricorn.
Sun/Scorpio sextile
Saturn in mutable, earth Virgo @ 19deg. on 11/11/08 @ 9:25AM EST. Here’s yet another Sun (consciousness) aspect, one
that refers to leaders and our own management or leadership of life issues.
This aspect expresses the desire to bring order to our lives with a better
sense of foundation and security. This is also an aspect of strategy and
planning.
Venus in mutable, fire Sagittarius
conjunct (0deg.) Pluto in mutable, fire Sagittarius @ 29deg. on 11/12/08 @
12:53AM EST. Venus makes its
final conjunction with Pluto in this sign and this particular aspect will not
repeat for another 248 years. Not that the aspect is as potent as some others
but still, its uniqueness is not lost on us. There’s a merging of desires and
an examination of vulnerabilities regarding those desires and what is
necessary, perhaps, to have them come true, while at the same time there is a
need to evolve and transform, which always requires letting something go. The
impetus to transform something about our deepest, most personal values and relationships
can even be obsessive. Clearly, we are stimulated to analyze the shifts and
changes made in the Pluto in Sagittarius years, with regard to Venusian issues of values and relationships, between late
1995 and now.
Venus enters cardinal, earth Capricorn
on 11/12/08 @ 10:25AM until 12/7/08. Venus moves into Capricorn a few weeks before Pluto’s final entry into
that sign. Venus is sober and pragmatic, protective and stable in Capricorn.
It’s more traditional values that we focus on now, those that provide security
and stability. This Venus reminds us that small can be good and less can be
more. Attending to the basics and a secure, calm foundation replaces the
pursuit for excessive superficial non-essentials, at least for the short term!
Jupiter/Capricorn
sextile Uranus/Pisces @ 18deg. on 11/13/08 @12:39AM
EST. This aspect of opportunity opens doors and windows
into exhilarating vistas. It’s a creative aspect and one that thrills with
possibility while taking advantage of all that life and innovation has to offer
to make systems work and function more effectively. Additionally, there’s
optimism and promise that whatever problems there are, they can also be solved
with hard work and ingenuity. This energetic combination
often bring unexpected windfalls and options not previously considered.
Sun/Scorpio square (90deg.) Neptune in
fixed, air Aquarius @ 21deg. on 11/13/08 @ 7:32AM EST. Whenever we combine Neptune with another planet,
idealism runs high and simultaneously the possibility of disappointment and
disillusionment exists. A part of the electorate is unimpressed with Obama’s
win that’s true, and he will have to find ways to speak to that portion of the populace.
In a square aspect, we see much more clearly what the struggle is and what the
issues are. In a fixed square, such as this, it is an ideological struggle, one
of values adjustment, and how to move with faith and inspiration (Neptune) out
of a huge fiscal and psychological mess. It is the struggle between faith and
hope (Neptune) and the entrenched, reactive, systems (Scorpio) that are in
place. However, squares always insist on action to get the log-jam moving.
