Planet Weather for the Week of November
1&8, 2009
NewsBits: A Change in the Weather – You may have felt the shift on Thursday afternoon, ET, as Saturn made its entry into the cardinal (proactive) sign of Libra, ruled by Venus (love, fairness, cooperation, gentleness, peace). Personally, I felt a driving compulsion to create order and beauty in forgotten disorderly places (read closets, papers, plants, etc.) and to review, renew my sense of relationship to others. A planet, poised at a cardinal degree, such as the Autumnal Equinox degree of 0 Libra sits at one of the great doorways of initiation. The zero degree cardinal points are those of the solstices and the equinoxes and represent the advent of a new season. There is an urgency to forge ahead, to plan, to set a goal and move forward toward it. The zero Libra doorway is balanced harmony, a mellowing and shifting away from the focus on the basic development of personality (the first six signs of the Zodiac) to sharing our resources/our developed self with others, interacting outside one’s purely self-interest and considering the value in what others bring to our lives. Another goal of Libra is perfection in and appreciation for beauty. The desire for perfect harmony is an attribute of Venus, and the commitment to achieve harmony, cooperation, and balance is what Saturn brings to the table. In fact, Saturn is exalted (performs exceptionally well) in Libra. It means that Saturn, who often suffers from a defensive deafness (tunnel-vision) by putting on the blinders (erecting walls) is open to appreciating and even listening to the views of the other, represented by Libra. Yes, Libra is the other side – the non-self, the selfless, yielding, compromising qualities of a Venusian influence.
In an odd way, in this yielding to the somewhat subtle if not insistent pressures of social conventions and changes, the Catholic Church has made historic advances into the 21st century by recognizing married priests of the Anglican Church, in an attempt to mend some very old fences!
We can also expect a shift in attitude regarding the healthcare debate in Congress as Saturn in Libra insistently points out the inequities and seeks to rebalance the scales of justice. Saturn in Libra recognizes unfairness wherever it shows itself. Tune into this energy and observe how it is working in your life. Better yet, contact your astrologer to obtain the full picture of this brand new 2.5 year cycle of influence, where it has landed in your chart and how you can make it work to your advantage.
SkyWatch: For the week of 11/1. Moon phase of the week: 11/2 - The Moon reaches Perfect Fullness at 2:14 PM EST, at 10 degrees of Taurus, the sign of Her exaltation. In Native American and folklore traditions, this Full Moon is variously known as the Frost Moon, the Beaver Moon, and the Hunter's Moon. When the frost is on the pumpkin, beavers busy themselves preparing for their long winter's nap and hunters busy themselves trapping the poor beavers. Skywatching events for the week: This Full Moon is the skywatching event for this week. Not much else happenin’ up there!
For the week of 11/8. Moon phase of the week: 11/9 - The Moon enters her Last (aka Third) Quarter at 10:56 AM EST, at 17 degrees of Leo. Skywatching events for the week: 12/9 - The Waning Moon and Mars will rise together just after midnight on the US East Coast with the Moon slightly above Mars. Within the space of an hour (again, as viewed from the East Coast) the Moon will make Her closest approach, passing within a few degrees of to the rusty planet and gradually widening the space between them as the early morning wears on towards dawn. 11/12 - The Waning Moon makes a close pass by yellow Saturn but their point of closest approach occurs during daylight over the US and after both have set as viewed from the East Coast. When they rise together in the pre-dawn sky, the Moon will be considerably ahead of (above) Saturn and the following morning about equally behind (below) Saturn.
Space news: Scientists have determined that an asteroid about 30 feet in diameter entered the Earth's atmosphere and disintegrated over Indonesia last month with an explosive force of about 50 kilotons -- considerably more powerful than the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II. Luckily for us, there's no comparison with the behemoth asteroid (dozens of miles in diameter) that did in the dinosaurs some 65 million years ago. But NASA does maintain an observational network to keep tabs on the larger of what are called "Near Earth Objects" -- sizeable asteroids that pass close enough to Earth to be a potential hazard, possibly major (as witness the fate of the poor dinos). Don’t just watch the skies, watch out for the skies! Go out! Look up!
Knowing when VOC Moons occur
is key to planning your successful week!
The Void-of-course (VOC) Moon is
a kind of limbo. As it reaches the end of a sign, the Moon makes no major
aspect to another planet before it enters the next sign. VOC is best for less
outcome-oriented activity, since VOC often means detours, distractions, drifting,
or delays. If you want specific outcomes, or if timeliness is critical, don’t
use a VOC Moon time. VOC is best for processing, imagining, creating, and
open-ended activities, like parties, research, or cleaning your desk/closet for
instance! It is said that when a new action is initiated during VOC, “nothing
will come of it,” or energies go in unplanned directions, which may not
necessarily be negative.

Week of 11/8/09 – Monday and Wednesday are
the most active or important days energetically – more Moon or planetary
aspects for engagement with other or projects, and stimulation for producing
results. Thursday has some difficult aspects from the newly minted
Saturn/Libra.
On 1/9/09, the Moon is VOC/Leo

Planet
Patterns & Cosmic Headlines for the next few weeks:
Summary: Saturn now sits at Zero degrees of Libra, the degree
of the Autumn Equinox and a major portal of initiation. Take the time to feel
the pulse of this new energy and what it is eliciting within you!
Mercury in fixed, water Scorpio is busy
making connections in the next two weeks: Mercury squares Mars/Leo on 11/1, trines
Neptune/Aquarius on 11/2, conjuncts the Sun/Scorpio on 11/5, squares Jupiter/Aquarius
on 11/8, trines Uranus/Pisces and squares Neptune/Aquarius both on 11/11/09. Of
course, Mercury is the fleet-footed messenger, but this whirlwind of activity
is more than usual. Briefly, Mercury in Scorpio can be caustic, certainly
direct, probing and deeply instinctive. Use these Mercury connections to ferret
out those darker places that have been lying dormant and are in need of a flash
of light to awaken them to consciousness and to release their potential and
creative energies.
Neptune in fixed, air Aquarius makes a
Station Direct (forward motion) @ 23 deg. on 11/4/09 until 6/1/10. The big news this week is certainly Neptune moving
forward once again. Neptune was in its retrograde energy since 5/29/09. The
sensations, images and dreams you have collected since that time now want
release and an outlet. Remember that Neptune is tricky and what we see is not
always what we get, and what we yearn for is not always possible in the way we
imagine. Yet again, our strongest dreams will ask to be supported by our
efforts to make them real. Strong Neptune energies are highly imaginative,
idealistic, and full of the grey areas of life that are so contradictory and
complex, and form the conundrums that tax our minds, emotions, and
sensibilities.
Venus enters
fixed, water, Scorpio on 11/7/09 until 11/1/09. Joining
the Sun and Mercury already in Scorpio, Venus takes the cake. This is a
possessive influence that elicits deep feelings and forces acknowledgment of
the desires and needs that move us on subterranean levels. Expect that your important relationship will confront underlying issues
that have been pending; these revelations could bring anger or resentment or
make for a much deeper bond of shared feelings.
Sun/Scorpio squares (90deg.) Jupiter in
fixed, air Aquarius on 11/10/09 and trines (120deg.) Uranus in mutable, water
Pisces on 11/14/09. The Sun has
to do with leaders or those who are in charge (the kings of old!) The Sun also
represents our own will and consciousness of the scope of our lives. The square
to Jupiter may mean overdoing something, going overboard, over the top, or otherwise
making a poor judgment. Sometimes this type of risk pays off, but caution is
advised. The flowing trine from a Watery Sun to watery Uranus consists of the
natural understanding that arises when we look beneath the surface and employ
compassion in contemplating how human beings run (or ruin) their lives and the
world. Do not spend time fretting over the trend that you cannot change. Focus
only on the change that is in your control and what you can personally
accomplish in your life and community.
Currently Active Paradigm-Shift Patterns:
Saturn enters cardinal, air Libra on
10/29/09. The full cycle lasts until 10/6/12. Saturn retrogrades back into the last three degrees of
the previous sign, Virgo, from 4/8/10-7/22/10. We’ve discussed Saturn’s
entry into Libra in recent newsletters, and now it is upon us. What can we
expect? Possibly not much until the energy starts to merge with the collective.
But let’s speak to the greater implications of a new 2.5-year Saturn-sign
cycle. Saturn is exalted in Libra. It means there’s more of a commitment to
cooperation and harmony among equals. Or, we can say, that is the primary
striving in this combination. The collective will be more focused on what is
fair and equitable and what is not. Generally, the message is to find the
imbalances and rebalance as needed. Where are you giving your commitment and
attention? Are the returns you receive what you really want? If not, then
adjust those commitments and relationships for greater equality and fairness.
Saturn in Libra also asks – what matters and what is valuable? When there is
real value, it is easier to make a commitment for a longer time and with
greater attention and intention. All major relationships and, in particular, those
with Libra Sun, Moon, or Ascendant will be put to the test. Saturn in a
cardinal sign is much more proactive, and you may find that you seek order from
recent chaos and productivity from prior stress and mess.
Saturn in mutable, earth Virgo opposite (180
deg. angle) Uranus in mutable, water Pisces, Part 3 of 5 was exact on 9/15/09 @
24degrees. This lengthy
(background cultural shift) cycle began on 11/4/08. Technically, it ends in
July 2010. This powerful five-part confrontation between the past (Saturn) and
the future (Uranus) is disintegrative, after tension and struggle between the
old pattern and the new consciousness that wants to arise. As you’ve noted in
the news and surely also in your own lives, it’s not an easy transition. It is
a powerfully challenging series of cosmic combinations. The sign pair,
Virgo/Pisces, I call the functional axis – meaning that if this place in the
chart (yours or a country’s) has a problem, the whole system has a problem.
Virgo/Pisces is the health of the body and soul – one’s work and the meaning
(or not) attached to your work or career. Or, put another way, this pairing
symbolizes the mundane and the spiritual (soul) aspects of life. These two
parts must find a balance or else there is stress and tension. The most obvious
example in the news is the overhaul of US healthcare. It’s also about the
accumulation of little things, the endless irritations that pile up and
eventually break the smooth functioning of a system. Part Two of this
combination took place on 2/5/09 @ 20 deg. The first four oppositions between
these two planets take place in the signs Virgo/Pisces, and the last one in the
sign pair Aries/Libra. Part 4 is due on 4/27/10.
*Jupiter in fixed air Aquarius conjoined
(0deg.) Neptune/Aquarius for the second time @ 26 deg. on 7/10/09. Jupiter and Neptune are still in the throes of their second
conjunction – still hovering very close to each other by degree, and still
working in the background of social consciousness. The first of three
conjunctions (meeting in the same sign and at the same degree) between these
two planets took place on 5/27/09, and the third and last takes place on 12/21/09 @
24degrees. As noted in previous issues of PW, it is rare (and
important) to have these two planets that meet by conjunction about every 12
years, make this aspect three separate times in their single cycle! The last
triple occurrence of this kind was in 1919-1920, marking the end of World War I.
The next time will be in 2047 –2048! This conjunction is meant to bring hope
and to inspire us to a wider understanding of what the meaning is of the lives
we have lived and wish to continue to live. It also speaks to false hopes and
pet illusions that we must understand with greater internal or soul wisdom. Expect
some amazing synchronicity to appear in your life. Be aware of all meetings
with others, events and involvements, and what these may evoke in you, and if
these meetings and events support the purpose and/or direction and overall
dream or purpose you hold for your life. This combination is inspiring,
creative and spiritual and also serves to dispel illusions.
