Planet Weather for the Week of October 5, 2008
NewsBits! The Great American Bailout or What? What exactly happened and what does it mean? Some
economists and those who appear to understand the situation better than the
person on Main St. are saying that “bailout” is not the correct word for what
is happening and that the over $700 billion is like an investment and some of
that money will come back to the government. Well, not being economists, we are
left with the astrological explanation. Credit crunch is aptly expressed in the
contracting, limiting energy ushered in by Pluto in Capricorn. Not only did
Pluto flirt with the first several degrees of Capricorn between 1/25/08 and
6/13/08 but it crossed the winter Solstice degree, 0 Capricorn several times
this year once direct and once retrograde. On 11/26, it will reach that degree
for the third, out of four times. We cannot underestimate the meaning of this.
The Solstice, Winter in the North and Summer in the
Southern hemisphere, is a point of initiation, a test of development. In
general, it signifies contraction, paring down and placing the focus on the
essentials of our lives rather than the embellishments. It is a deep
recalibration and rebalancing of priorities. We’ve seen the greedy excesses and
the play now, pay later mentality of the last 13 years in particular, while Pluto
was clothed in Jupiter’s sign of Sagittarius. Capricorn’s contraction also
signifies a lack of trust in existing systems that we have counted on; there is
a withdrawal after a huge expenditure of energy, and in this case, the biggest
loan ever made by the US government.
Biden vs. Palin
– The VP Debate! First of all,
the much anticipated debate took place during a Mercury Rx and a VOC Moon! Outcomes
expected during a VOC Moon typically do not yield the specified result desired,
or as the mantra goes, “nothing will come of it.” The well-coached and fact-crammed Palin held her own in relation to the seasoned and wise
Biden. Winks, shout-outs and “you betcha’s” aside,
Plain did little to shore up the ailing campaign of McCain. It was expected
that she had to appear knowledgeable after her several disastrous recent
interviews with Charles Gibson and Katie Couric,
which made wonderful Saturday Night life material. The Moon/Scorpio’s last
aspect before the debate (as it went VOC) was a square to Neptune/Aquarius and
we saw America’s love of show and glamour, or how easily many are hoodwinked by
a smile and a pretty face. We are the
country that produced Hollywood after all, and the actor who became President,
Ronald Reagan. Glamour (certainly not all bad) and its
unfortunate shadow, shallowness, is a part of the personality of the United
States, a part that seduces and beguiles and one that often shames us in the
eyes of the world. We see it now in the rise of the virtual unknown, hockey mom
with lipstick, a twisted version of female liberation, Sarah Palin, and forgive my pun, but some of us have paled to
think that this unqualified woman could potentially be President of the United
States, the heretofore most powerful country in the world. Palin
is under some intense Neptune/Aquarius contacts to her Sun, Mars, and Saturn in
Aquarius – she has been thrust suddenly onto the stage, into the limelight, is
dazzled and bedazzling some, but unfortunately, it is probably the wrong stage
altogether. We have to believe and trusty that what the American electorate
wants from American Idol is different from what they want for the leaders of
their country.
SkyWatch: Moon
phase of the week: 10/7 -- The Moon enters Her First Quarter phase at 05:04 AM
ET, at 14 degrees of Capricorn, the sign of Her detriment (180 degrees opposite
the sign of Her rulership, Cancer). Skywatching events of the week: 10/6 -- The nearly First
Quarter Moon makes a close pass by Jupiter in the constellation Scorpius. You can see the Moon just below Jupiter on the
previous evening and just above and to the left of Jupiter on the following
evening. Their point of closest approach occurs after both have set but seeing
the Moon close to a bright planet or star is always a beautiful sight. Space
news of the week: When worlds collide! The 1950’s sci-fi
movie of this title, which had an extrasolar planet
entering the solar system and colliding with Earth while a select few humans escapied on a space shuttle-like craft may have seemed a
bit far-fetched at the time. But apparently such collisions do happen.
Recently, scientists found evidence of just such a collision between two eathlike planets orbiting a sunlike
star about 300 light-years distant. A massive dust ring around the star that
was all that was left! Hopefully, any intelligent species inhabiting one or the
other of these worlds in collision made good their escape ala the method
depicted in the movie. Go
out! Look up!
Knowing when VOC Moons occur is key to planning your successful week!
The Void-of-course (VOC) Moon is
a kind of limbo. As it reaches the end of a sign, the Moon makes no major
aspect to another planet before it enters the next sign. VOC is best for less
outcome-oriented activity, since VOC often means detours, distractions, drifting,
or delays. If you want specific outcomes, or if timeliness is critical, don’t
use a VOC Moon time. VOC is best for processing, imagining, creating, and
open-ended activities, like parties, research, or cleaning your desk/closet for
instance! It is said that when a new action is initiated during VOC, “nothing
will come of it,” or energies go in unplanned directions, which may not
necessarily be negative.

Week of 10/5/08 – Sunday, Monday,
Tuesday and Friday are the most active energetically and potentially very
productive days – more Moon or planetary aspects for engagement with others or
projects, and/or producing results. On 10/5/08, the Moon is VOC/Sagittarius
from 9:08PM to 11:48PM EDT – On 10/7/08, the Moon is VOC/Capricorn from 3:37PM
to 12:03AM EDT (next day!) – On 10/10/08, the Moon is VOC/Aquarius from 7:13PM
to 9:31PM EDT.
PlanetPatterns:
The following planetary energy patterns flavor the day
and are felt or experienced often hours before and after their exact
culmination. They remain effective, certainly until the next major planetary
pattern comes along to shift the energy gears.
The Sun in cardinal, air Libra squares (90deg.)
Jupiter in cardinal, earth Capricorn @ 13deg. on 10/6/08 @12:52PM. The Sun also
conjuncts (0deg.) Mercury Rx/Libra @ 13deg., on the
same day @ 4:53PM EDT. Jupiter
brings a larger-than-life sensation or perspective and in a square can mean
that something is too much, over the top, or excessive. It’s easier to take a
risk and make justifications with Jupiter adding positive input. However,
Jupiter is in Capricorn, (the sign of its Fall) and Capricorn is ruled by
Saturn (order, minimalism), so any excesses now will lead to further
consequences or repercussions later on. This Jupiter is, by nature, more
cautious and prefers a calculated, deliberated risk, or growth. Jupiter in
Capricorn favors big business and well-established entities.
Mercury Rx/Libra squares
Jupiter/Capricorn @ 13deg. on 10/6/08 @ 7:46PM EDT. This aspect indicates making bad judgments or
decisions, so watch out and take your time to go over all the facts. If you
have any planets or points at 13 deg. you will be personally impacted by these
multiple aspects all exact at the same degree. The challenging Jupiter aspects also serve to
point out the imbalances by making them glaringly obvious, in hopes that the challenge
to regain balance will be met.
Venus in
fixed, water Scorpio trine (120deg.) Uranus Rx in mutable, water Pisces @
19deg. on 10/10/08 @ 1:48AM EDT. Venus makes the rounds of planets with sextiles (60deg. angle) to both Jupiter and Saturn earlier in
the week, asking us to refine our value standards with an eye to the future and
our soul’s yearning. Venus in a flowing aspect to Uranus stirs up the emotional
depths. There’s an opportunity to gain insight into the emotional roots of some
of the values we hold and the chance to examine our biases.
Venus/Scorpio
square Neptune in fixed, air Aquarius @ 21deg.on 10/11/08 @ 4:21PM EDT. This
last aspect for the week may usher in some confusion in feelings with attendant
disappointment, perhaps, of something lost or not attained,
something elusive and fleeting or, chasing after an ideal and realizing it all
begins within us. Disillusionment resulting from this combination is usually
because we have been caught in one of our blind spots.
