Planet Weather for the Week of September 9, 2007

Planet Weather for the Week of September 9, 2007

SkyWatch - Moon phase of the week: 9/11 -- On this sixth anniversary of the suicide attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C., the Moon enters a New cycle at 8:44 AM EDT (close to the time the first of the Twin Towers was struck) at 18 degrees of Virgo, partially eclipsing the Sun in the process (see below). Skywatching events of the week:  9/9 -- The Moon passes close to Saturn when the two are still well below the horizon for North Americans, but the two objects will still be fairly close when the thin sliver of Balsamic Moon rises with Saturn just before daybreak. 9/11 -- This partial solar eclipse will not be visible north of the Equator. However, the Moon's outer shadow or penumbra will slice across part of Antarctica and the lower two-thirds of the South American continent. The penumbra first touches down over Bolivia at 6:26 EDT, just east of the capital city of La Paz, and then moves southwest for roughly four hours.  9/13 -- You may also be able to see another rare sight, the Moon close to Mercury about 7 PM local time. Their point of closest approach occurs much earlier in the day when the two are not visible from North America, but they will still be close low in the East just after sunset. Spotting the elusive Mercury is a rare enough event, but it is even rarer when the Moon is well-placed nearby. Space news of the week: Scientists now believe that an ancient collision between two giant asteroids 160 million years ago in the Asteroid Belt created the space rock that collided with Earth 65 million years ago and caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. The ancient collision hurled numerous large chunks every which way, including into the Chicxulub crater near Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula that did the dino deed and the Tycho crater on the Moon. Go out! Look up!

Knowing when VOC Moons occur is a key to planning your astrological week!

The Void-of-course (VOC) Moon is a kind of limbo. As it reaches the end of a sign, the Moon makes no major aspect to another planet before it enters the next sign. VOC is best for less outcome-oriented activity, since VOC often means detours, distractions, or delays. If you want specific outcomes or if timeliness is critical, choose another time, if possible. VOC is best for processing, imagining, creating, and open-ended activities, like parties, research, or cleaning your desk/closet for instance! It is said that when a new action is initiated during VOC, “nothing will come of it,” or energies go in unplanned directions, which may not necessarily be negative.

This week – Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday are the most active energetically and potentially most productive days (depending on what you’re doing!) On 9/9/07, the Moon is VOC/Leo from 2:07PM to 9:10PM EDT – on 9/12/07, VOC/Virgo from 12:13AM to 7:31AM EDT – on 9/14/07, VOC/Libra from 12:10PM EDT to 7:37PM EDT.

The following planetary energy patterns flavor the day and are felt or experienced often hours before and after their exact culmination. They remain effective, certainly until the next major planetary pattern comes along to shift the energy.

Mars in mutable, air Gemini trine (120deg.) Neptune in fixed, air Aquarius @ 19deg. on 9/9/07 @ 12:07AM EDT. Your motivation, direction, or action is stimulated by an instinct you may be unable to define. Because of that, others may question what you’re doing and why? Compassion and caring may be the fuel that supports an action. There’s an emotional intelligence, even an idealistic or spiritual impulse that may take hold of you, having you change direction. If your psychic channels are clear, you are more likely to appropriately filter the energies you are absorbing and processing, to your benefit. Otherwise, you may simply take a detour or need to escape for no reason at all.

Sun in mutable, earth Virgo opposite (180deg.) Uranus Rx in mutable, water Pisces @ 16deg. on 9/9/07 @ 2:47PM EDT.  Since 2003, these two planets have met in this same configuration around this time of year. Uranus is always responsible for an awakening and, in this case, it is some detail that will prompt a greater awareness of truth in your life. The focus is also on matters having to do with health, work, and well-being. It’s the kind of aspect that induces you to take stock and really see the truth of a situation. If things are out of balance, you may gain greater insight as to how to resolve the imbalance.

Mercury in cardinal, air Libra sextile (60deg.) Jupiter in mutable, fire Sagittarius @ 12deg. on 9/13/07 @ 6:43AM EDT. You may receive good news or an invitation to have some fun. Take advantage of social camaraderie and laughter with friends new and old during this time and expand both your mind with great conversation and your network with new connections.

Sky Patterns:

Solar Eclipse New Moon @ 18 Virgo on 9/11/07 @ 8:44AM EDT. What a strange coincidence, this powerful eclipse on the Anniversary of 9/11! The heat and power of the Sun and its role in our life on Earth, makes a Solar Eclipse a bit more potent than your ordinary New Moon. The ancients felt eclipses brought major changes, typically in their leaders and leadership. Anyone with planets in the 17-19degree range of any signs will feel this eclipse most acutely. Eclipses sensitize an area of the Zodiac for months and even years. The underlying energy of the eclipse is triggered over and over by planets connecting with that degree in the future, particularly any slower moving (longer impact) planets. Uranus/Pisces made its last Station Retrograde exactly opposite this degree and so colors this eclipse with excess Uranian energy: the unexpected, abrupt, disruptive, and often a hard lesson in truth. Uranus is retrograding as this eclipse is exact but will return to 18deg. Pisces between 2/28-3/15/08. This degree squares the USA Mars @ 21 Gemini by a few degrees and G.W.Bush’s Uranus @ 19 Gemini by one degree. In addition, Mars right now, is traveling through Gemini, and the USA is having its biennial Mars return (exact 9/10-9/12/07). A Mars return indicates greater confidence in asserting a more aggressive stance, taking action, and a places greater focus on one’s goals and actions. This same current Mars/Gemini squared the eclipse degree 9/5-9/8/07, just days before. These phenomena and the USA Mars return are quite evident in the louder rumblings and bellicose rhetoric regarding the potential U.S. bombing of Iran. The propaganda machine is well underway. Have you listened to Fox news lately? A federal judge ruled this week that Iran, cited as responsible for the bombing and killing of 241 US soldiers in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1983, must pay $2.65 billion in damages to the surviving soldiers and their families. (Good luck collecting that!) As for our President, Saturn newly ensconced in Virgo as of 9/2/07, is heading for a conjunction with his natal Mars @ 9 Virgo. Saturn makes its first station retrograde @ 8 Virgo (12/20/07), less than a degree shy of G.W. Bush’s Mars! Jupiter changing signs in December 2007, and Pluto on 1/26/08, and taking all the above into consideration, I’d expect the next six months to be critical, erratic, troublesome, and complicated for Bush personally and also for our country.

On July 5, 2001, there was a Lunar Eclipse @ 13 Capricorn exactly opposite the USA Sun @ 13 Cancer. On 9/11/01, Jupiter/Cancer @ 11deg. approaching the eclipse degree, was one of the astrological indicators, among numerous others, that expressed the events of that disastrous day, six years ago.
