Planet Weather for the Week of August 12, 2007

SkyWatchMoon phase of the week: 8/12 -- The Moon enters her New cycle Sunday at 7:03 PM EDT, at 19 degrees of Leo. The Moon's brief (two-and-a-half-day) passage through Leo early this week brings to five the number of celestial bodies located in this sign -- Venus, Saturn, the Sun, and Mercury in addition to the Moon. Anyone born early this week will have a potent concentration of planets in this single sign, a pattern known in astrology as a stellium. (So watch for a "super Leo" to possibly emerge on the public scene in 20-30 years, since someone with this particular stellium is much more likely to put himself or herself "out there.”) Skywatching events of the week: With so many planets so close to the sun, not much is going on in this department. However, the good news is that the annual Perseid meteor shower peaks on the same night as the New Moon. 8/12 -- The Perseids peak between midnight and dawn, appearing to "radiate" from the Constellation Perseus (hence their name) which rises about midnight local time, so look eastward then. Typically, this is one of the best showers of the year, and, with no moonlight at all to compete, observing conditions are near-perfect this year. Peak rates for the Perseids range from 50 to 90 per hour, depending on local conditions. In practice, this means you may see one bright streak across the sky every couple of minutes or so -- but be prepared for a few real "showers" of them! Space news of the week: The Space Shuttle Endeavor successfully launched from Cape Canaveral last week, close to schedule, and rendezvoused with the International Space Station (ISS). This is Endeavor's first flight in nearly five years. The Endeavor crew's mission is to install lots of much-needed hardware on the ISS over the course of nearly two weeks in orbit and several spacewalks. Go out! Look up!

Knowing when VOC Moons occur is a key to planning your astrological week!

The Void-of-course (VOC) Moon is a kind of limbo. As it reaches the end of a sign, the Moon makes no major aspect to another planet before it enters the next sign. VOC is best for less outcome-oriented activity, since VOC often means detours, distractions, or delays. If you want specific outcomes or if timeliness is critical, choose another time if possible. VOC is best for processing, imagining, creating, and open-ended activities, like parties, research, or cleaning your desk/closet for instance! It is said that when a new action is initiated during VOC, “nothing will come of it,” or energies go in unplanned directions, which may not necessarily be negative.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week – Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday are the most active energetically and potentially most productive days (depending on what you’re doing!) On 8/13/07, the Moon is VOC/Leo from 9:34AM to 2:03PM EDT – on 8/15/07, VOC/Virgo from 5:02PM to 12:04AM EDT (8/16/07) – on 8/18/07, VOC/Libra from 8:21AM EDT to 12:13PM EDT.
PlanetPatterns:
The following planetary energy patterns flavor the day and are felt or experienced often hours before and after their exact culmination. They remain effective, certainly until the next major planetary pattern comes along to shift the energy.
Sun in fixed, fire Leo opposite (180deg.) Neptune Retrograde (Rx) in fixed, air Aquarius @ 20deg. on 8/13/07 @ 2:27PM EDT. Every year during Leo time, the Sun meets Neptune in Aquarius (since 1998, when Neptune entered Aquarius). The days surrounding this aspect can have you dreaming, or re-dreaming your life, your love, your creative purpose. You want to escape aspects of your pressured life, and so this is a perfect time to take a vacation and kick-back a bit. If you have to work, then find shorter ways to bring your favorite dreams into real scenarios. This can be a romantic aspect, as Neptune softens the heart, and yet it can also blur the boundaries, making it good for some situations but not for those that require appropriate boundaries, responsibilities, or obligations. Falling asleep at your desk will not be rewarding.
These energies inspire artists of all types and make us wonder about the spiritual dimensions or synchronicities, and the serendipities of life. The other side of the coin can be confused or complex situations that will need to be unraveled.
Venus Rx in fixed, fire Leo conjunct (0deg.) Saturn/Leo @ 27deg. on 8/13/07 @ 3:15PM EDT. Venus, in its Rx cycle conjuncts Saturn three separate times (7/1/07 and 8/13/07, in Leo and 10/14/07, in Virgo)! Talk about making a point. Decisions regarding love, money, appearance & beauty, friendships, your sense of values in relationships, and your relationship to life are featured. In Leo, you may question the creative quotient and quality (or not) in your life. With Saturn, there’s always something to be settled and decided. Saturn applies the pressure to come to terms or to present a problem, one that is likely not entirely new. Old friends return, we assess the values of friendship, we recognize a phase change, a status change in our lives or with our friends. Saturn also represents the natural cycles of change and development that we all must live through and that teach us maturity and responsibility. This three-prong conjunction, two in Leo and one in Virgo asks about functionality. Are the values you hold dear present and accounted for in your life, and are your values working for you in terms of overall joy and satisfaction? If not, change is in order.
Mercury in fixed, fire Leo opposite Neptune Rx/Aquarius @ 20deg. on 8/14/07 @ 4:10PM EDT. Thinking can easily get wooly-headed. Perhaps you just need a break from all the logical machinations of mind and move in a more compassionate direction, something out of the norm and requiring a decision from the heart center. Confusion can result with this aspect, or missed appointments due to forgetfulness, or feelings of disarray and stress. You may simply have too much on your mind, too much complexity. Retreat and discharge all that extraneous mental material via your favorite ways to relax.
Venus Rx Leo trine (120deg.) Pluto Rx in mutable, fire Sagittarius @ 26deg. on 8/15/07 @ 9:48AM EDT. You feel a powerful connection with someone or with a special project, perhaps something/someone dear to you returns for some unfinished business, emotional or otherwise. Financial matters may also be calling for your attention. You may wish to control a relationship situation but be aware that the other person may not feel the same way, or have an entirely different agenda. These energies can be compulsive or obsessive. Desire is increased.
Sun/Leo conjunct Mercury/Leo @ 22deg. on 8/15/07 @ 3:56PM EDT. Indignant is the word that comes to mind – don’t fall for it! You may be indulging in a super-sized ego with this transit but others may not appreciate the brilliant or dramatic display of opinionated discourse! Other than that, use the Messenger meeting with the Sun as a way to contemplate the authenticity of your message. What is it that the real you wants to create and express? How do you wish to be known, seen, and discussed by others? It’s a moment in time to assess your personal power and how it comes across to others.
Mercury/Leo conjunct Venus Rx/Leo @ 25deg. on 8/17/07 @ 1:26AM EDT. Now it’s time to have that discussion with a partner, or friend and show the appreciation that you’ve been holding back or that you have not expressed recently. Show the love in your heart in all the ways you are able. This moment is one of communion and joy and excellent for a party (the night before as the aspect moves to crescendo)! Creative discussions are available and new creative ideas are seeded.
Mercury/Leo trine Pluto Rx/Sagittarius @ 26deg. on 8/17/07 @ 1:21PM EDT. Confirm your thoughts and ideas look deeply into the matter at hand, and trust your gut feelings. You may be able to speak more authentically about something powerful in your life or psyche at this time. Allow some vulnerability by revealing more about your personal self. Others may reveal an aspect of their persona not previously known. Determination is increased and a powerful idea wants some air time.
Sun/Leo conjunct Venus Rx/Leo @ 24deg. on 8/17/07 @ 11:42PM EDT. Warm-fuzzies galore! You are recognized and responded to positively by others. You feel generous and gracious and are able more easily to appreciate and recognize others’ good qualities and gift in your life. It’s a beautiful and gracious moment to appreciate life in all its beauty, warmth, and glory.
Mercury/Leo conjunct Saturn/Leo @ 28deg. on 8/18/07 @ 9:44AM EDT. Now it’s time for the decision, the focus, and the commitment. Saturn always wants to know what to do and when. More importantly, it wants preparation and organization. This aspect focuses the mind and filters out the extraneous, encouraging using essentials and core information. If you need to make an important decision, this aspect will assist you in separating the wheat from the chaff.
NewsBits: Earth Matters: Utah Mine Collapse! If we were only better trained to listen to our instincts. If only emotional intelligence had a higher value in our society. Some of the six miners trapped in a collapsed mine in Huntington, Utah had safety concerns.  They were working in an area of the mine called 7 Belt, the deepest part of the mine. In the weeks prior to the 8/6 early morning collapse, the floors in that area had been heaving and buckling from intense pressure. Does this remind you of the Minnesota bridge collapse? The sky configuration for the bridge collapse is the same as for the mine collapse. In recent weeks, Mars/Taurus has been in a stressful configuration, squaring both Saturn/Leo and Neptune/Aquarius. At the time of the mine collapse, Mars had reached the critical degree of 29 and had absorbed the previous stressful square, the Moon in Taurus on the same day re-triggered the burdensome energy Mars was holding and at the 29th degree wanted to release it. Jupiter in Sagittarius was poised to change to Stationary Direct later that day. Jupiter indicates expansion but not always of a positive nature. In this case, there was misjudgment and a lack of caution regarding the safety of the mine in that area. Jupiter sometimes is over-optimistic, and failing to heed necessary caution, becomes unlucky. At the time of the collapse, Leo was the rising sign with the Sun close by. This and the fact that Saturn is also in Leo can also speak to the courageous traditional work of men, in this case, miners. In subsequent days, the Sun continued to move closer to an opposition to Neptune/Aquarius, which in this case can indicate desperate and very stressful circumstances, a group life struggle. All in all, Monday, 8/6/07, was a difficult day energetically. Consider also, that Mars/Taurus is an Earth sign and mishaps (Mars) concern earth-related or tangible situations/conditions. Mars entered Gemini, an air sign, the morning following the collapse and the focus is, in part, on lungs and breathing. The chances for the miner’s survival are not good with the configurations mentioned, and now also due to the days that have elapsed. We pray for a miracle because miracles are always possible.
