Planet Weather for the Weeks of June 24 & July 1, 2007

SkyWatch -- Moon phases: 6/30 -- The Moon enters her perfect fullness at 9:49 AM EDT, at 8 degrees of Capricorn. 7/7 -- The Moon enters her Last Quarter (aka Third Quarter) phase at 12:54 PM EDT, at 15 degrees of Aries. Skywatching events: 6/28 -- The nearly Full Moon passes very close to the bright, astrologically significant star Antares in the constellation Scorpius, coming within half a degree around 4 AM EDT, with Jupiter vividly shining nearby. This close encounter occurs just after moonset on the U.S. East Coast, but otherwise is visible throughout most of North America. In parts of the South Pacific and South America, the Moon actually occults (passes in front of) Antares. 7/1 -- Venus passes Saturn by less than a degree, an unusually close pass for the two planets. Their closest approach happens about 8:45 PM EDT, with the sky still lit by the setting sun in all but the most easterly parts of North America. However, even after dark, the view should still be spectacular from everywhere, since the two bodies will have moved apart by only a miniscule amount by then. This event also provides a cool chance to see how much sooner brilliant Venus appears than somewhat dimmer Saturn in the darkening West. Space news: The Space Shuttle Atlantis, landed safely at Cape Canaveral after a successful mission during which the shuttle astronauts installed new solar panels on the International Space Station (ISS) to provide the Station with much needed additional power. The astronauts also helped get the Russian ISS navigation computers back online. (These had been temporarily knocked out by interference from the new panels.) Evidently, all is now well aboard the ISS, and the human presence in space continues, uninterrupted. Go out! Look up!

Knowing when VOC Moons occur is a key to planning your astrological week!

The Void-of-course (VOC) Moon is a kind of limbo. As it reaches the end of a sign, the Moon makes no major aspect to another planet before it enters the next sign. VOC is best for less outcome-oriented activity, since VOC often means detours, distractions, or delays. If you want specific outcomes or if timeliness is critical, choose another time if possible. VOC is best for processing, imagining, creating, and open-ended activities, like parties, research, or cleaning your desk/closet for instance! It is said that when a new action is initiated during VOC, “nothing will come of it,” or energies go in unplanned directions, which may not necessarily be negative.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week 6/24/07, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Saturday are the most active energetically and potentially most productive days (depending on what you’re doing!) On 6/24/07, the Moon is VOC/Libra from 3:22PM to 8:26PM EDT – on 6/26/07, VOC/Scorpio from 4:23PM to 8:24AM EDT, the next day – on 6/29/07, VOC/Sagittarius from 1:07PM to 6:05PM EDT.
Week of 7/1/07, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday are the most active energetically and potentially most productive. On 7/1/7, the Moon is VOC/Capricorn from 4:45AM to 1:24AM EDT, the next day - on 7/4/07, VOC/Aquarius from 2:02AM to 6:52AM EDT, on 7/6/07, VOC/Pisces from 6:06AM to 10:57AM EDT.
PlanetPatterns:
The following planetary energy patterns flavor the day and are felt or experienced often hours before and after their exact culmination. They remain effective, certainly until the next major planetary pattern comes along to shift the energy.
Mars enters fixed, earth Taurus on 6/24/07 @ 5:26PM EDT until 8/7/07. Mars in Taurus is steady, sensuous, pleasure-seeking and pragmatic. Instead of an overt aggressiveness or fiery spontaneous assertiveness that we may have felt or experienced in the previous Mars/Aries, this Mars is less direct and may be passive aggressive, since it dislikes open confrontation (Mars in a Venus-ruled sign). While Mars in Aries is quick on the trigger, Mars/Taurus is persistent – very much like the tortoise in the Aesop fable of the tortoise and hare.
Saturn in fixed, fire Leo opposite (180deg.) Neptune in fixed, air Aquarius @ 21deg. on 6/25/07 @ 12:57PM EDT. This is the final of three oppositions between these two planets. The first took place on 8/31/06, and the second on 2/28/07.  This powerful opposition describes the uncertainty of the times we live in, a lack of strong leadership, as well as confusion and shifting of ideals. Saturn represents the establishment, the structures we lean on for support, and Neptune is a dissolving factor, eroding and tearing down structures/habits/patterns, and loosening bonds and boundaries. Based on a review of priorities, we need to form new structures.
Sun in cardinal, water Cancer conjunct (0deg.) Mercury Rx/Cancer @ 6deg. on 6/28/07 @ 2:40PM EDT. With Cancer energies, we are prone to nostalgia and reviewing the past, indulging in the memories that make up the tapestry of our lives. This day for bright ideas can easily bring forgotten memories to the surface. Sort through your discarded ideas and you might find something worth salvaging or something you can piece together in another way. A focus on family, home, and other domestic matters keeps you mentally occupied.
Venus in fixed, fire Leo opposite (180deg.) Neptune/Aquarius @ 21deg. on 6/30/07 @ 11:32AM EDT.  Venus gets involved with the Saturn/Neptune opposition and may indicate that an important relationship is forming or an existing one goes through a challenge or test for viability, commitment, or lurking illusions. You may experience disappointment, but clarity emerges from confusion or misunderstanding. Someone doesn’t take you seriously enough. Your priorities are confused and need evaluation. Make decisions from the heart.
Venus/Leo conjunct Saturn/Leo @ 21deg. on 7/1/07 @ 10:38AM EDT. A clear reality steps in and sobers you up. You do what you must; you face the challenge or decide against it. Saturn brooks no equivocation. Make a commitment to your core values, whatever they are.
Mercury Rx in cardinal, water Cancer sextile (60deg.) Mars/Taurus @ 4deg. on 7/1/07 @ 3:08PM EDT. Mercury shares some of its wisdom (or gossip) with Mars, newly minted in Taurus. Mars absorbs this information and passes it on to the person or place that will yield the greatest return. Mars entertains several options and actions and operates always from a pragmatic core.
NewsBits: Michael Bloomburg goes Independent! New York City’s major, former Republican Michael Bloomburg recently announced his political shift to Independent status, making people speculate as to his motives for leaving the Republican camp. Will he be the dark-horse candidate for President in 2008? Bloomberg was a life-long Democrat but ran as a Republican in the 2001 New York City Mayoral election. Bloomberg says of his recent switch, that being an Independent is more in line with the way he has been governing NYC. Michael Bloomberg is a fascinating character, politically as well as astrologically. Born in Medford, MA on 2/14/1942 (time unknown) of middle-class parents, Bloomberg put himself though Harvard, and in 1981, began his own company, Bloomberg LP, which brought transparency and efficiency to buyers and sellers of financial securities. His business acumen made him a successful multi-millionaire. Having made his money, Bloomberg gave back through a wide range of philanthropic work. Elected as Mayor of NYC just 2 months after 9/11, he was responsible for the remarkable rebounding of the city under his forward-looking leadership. Michael Bloomberg was born with Venus, Mercury, Moon, and Sun all in Aquarius and Venus and Mercury retrograde! This chart is a first-rate example of how well a retrograde Venus and Mercury can work. We can say that a retrograde planet deepens the energy factors of the planet and perhaps keeps a person involved and enmeshed longer, as they figure out the various loops (or loopholes) in the retrograde process. We know that retrogrades usually mean the need to repeat and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. In the case of Bloomberg, his repetitions seem to have made him very successful! Retrogrades not only repeat but also deepen the understanding of the particular planetary energies. Since his Venus and Mercury (inner planets) are retrograde, the reference is socially-and values-focused, reinforced by their Aquarian sign (social consciousness) position and the natural fixity (staying-power) of Aquarius! Bloomberg also holds a group of three planets in Taurus – Mars, Saturn, and Uranus, giving him the persistence and follow-through and again reinforcing staying with it. Bloomberg has used his vision as well as his vast financial resources to not only rebuild NYC in the tragic aftermath of 9/11, but also to prepare it for an increased population explosion of millions in the near future. Asked about his aspirations for President of the US, Bloomberg replied, “What do you think - a Jewish, billionaire from NY?”
