Planet Weather for the Week
of February 3, 2008
SkyWatch – Moon phase of the
week: 2/6 -- The Moon begins a New cycle at 10:44 PM ET, at 17 degrees of
Aquarius. The Moon also begins this New cycle with a
Solar eclipse! That is, if you happen to be a penguin -- or a chilly research
scientist. The leading edge of the Moon's shadow will first touch Antarctica at
10:24 PM ET, and the eclipse will complete at 11:31 ET. This will be a
so-called "annular" eclipse, so those penguins and frozen scientists
will see a bright ring of Sun around the Moon's dark disk. (Other) skywatching events of the week: All week: Venus and Jupiter
will be rising together as morning stars less than a degree apart (initially),
so that they will appear almost as a single brilliant star in the predawn sky.
This close approach by these two brightest planets is a rare sight indeed, but
things get even rarer on succeeding mornings. 3/4 -- Venus, Jupiter, and the
waning Last Quarter Moon will all rise together in a
beautiful celestial trifecta, forming a perfect
isosceles triangle! The astrological significance of this event -- because
Venus and Jupiter are both considered "beneficent" (that is, highly
positive influences) -- boggles the mind. Ancient astrologer/astronomers would
have had a field day with this one! Space news of the week: This is a big week
all around because, in addition to the celestial light shows described above,
Space Shuttle Atlantis is also due to be launched to rendezvous with the
International Space Station, hopefully with all those delaying kinks worked
out. Go out! Look up!
Knowing when VOC Moons occur is key to planning your successful week!
The Void-of-course (VOC) Moon is
a kind of limbo. As it reaches the end of a sign, the Moon makes no major
aspect to another planet before it enters the next sign. VOC is best for less
outcome-oriented activity, since VOC often means detours, distractions, drifting,
or delays. If you want specific outcomes, or if timeliness is critical, don’t
use a VOC Moon time. VOC is best for processing, imagining, creating, and
open-ended activities, like parties, research, or cleaning your desk/closet for
instance! It is said that when a new action is initiated during VOC, “nothing
will come of it,” or energies go in unplanned directions, which may not
necessarily be negative.

Week of 2/3/08 – Monday, Wednesday, Thursday,
and Friday are the most active energetically and potentially most productive days
– more Moon or planetary aspects for engagement and/or producing results. On 2/4/08,
the Moon is VOC/Capricorn from 1:20PM to 2:10PM EST (2/5/08) – on 2/7/08, VOC/Aquarius
from 10:50AM to 8:46PM EST – on 2/9/08, VOC/Pisces from 4:05PM to 1:17AM EST (2/10/08).
PlanetPatterns:
The following planetary energy patterns flavor the day
and are felt or experienced often hours before and after their exact
culmination. They remain effective, certainly until the next major planetary
pattern comes along to shift the energy gears.
Sun in fixed,
air Aquarius conjunct (0 deg.) Mercury Retrograde ® Aquarius @ 17deg. 0n 2/6/08 @ 1:19PM EST.
As you can tell, February 6th
has an abundance of cosmic conditions, the first of which is a call to truthful
clarity beginning with oneself, represented by the Sun, the leader of your
chart. Mercury right next to the Sun is called cazimi. It’s when any planet is within 6 minutes longitude of the Sun’s
position. It supposedly enhances and strengthens, gives more life and energy to
the planet. Still, in this case, the challenge is to separate one’s ego from
one’s opinions. Your truth is yours but it may not be another’s. Both the Sun
and Mercury, are in fixed signs so thoughts can be
opinionated or stubbornly held. This can be positive or negative depending on
the nature of the fixed ideas. There is also a crystalline quality to the mind
and Mercury, although currently retrograde, is exalted (works most according to
its logical nature) in Aquarius. You may hear some sound reasoning or ideas
that cut through confusion to leave you refreshed and touched in your
truth-center.
Venus in cardinal, earth Capricorn sextile (60deg.) Uranus in mutable, water Pisces @ 16deg.
on 2/6/08 @ 9:23PM EST. This
combination is an opportunity to examine the long-term habits you’ve developed
in your primary relationships with the objectivity of Uranus and the compassionate
and understanding of Pisces. This aspect asks you to be self-aware and
self-observant about your relationship patterns in order to discover a truth you
may not have been aware of previously. It’s time to update some old patterns
and breathe some new life into your relationships. The call is also to mingle,
be around people of like sensibilities, and network, making new friends in the
process.
Solar Eclipse, New Moon @ 17 Aquarius on
2/6/08 @ 10:44PM EST. This is the
first of the four 2008 eclipses. Eclipses are markers at specific degrees of
the Zodiac; they create an emphasis there, resulting in energy release. If you
have a planet within a few degrees of an eclipse point, that planet will be
stimulated to express its intrinsic energies for at least the next year, and
oftentimes much longer. The area of life represented by the planet and the
house it rules in your birth chart will remain in high focus for a long time.
As with the shadow an eclipse causes naturally – there is an unconscious
(mostly) turning inward to bring something else to the surface of awareness.
Events and situations (some sudden and unexpected) pertaining to the placement
in your chart stimulate this new awareness. This particular Solar
eclipse series began in the year 944 CE! Eclipses move from one pole (North or
South) to the other in their cycle and are part of a family called a Saros
cycle, which lasts about 1300 years. The energies of the current eclipse align
with the recent Mars direct station @ 24 Gemini and with Pluto’s current
position @ 0 Capricorn. The combination emphasizes weighing information or our own
thinking with presently existing realities in our life or in the world around
us. The energies present in the birth chart of this eclipse and therefore
influencing the present stage of the eclipse cycle, can feel draining and,
again, the emphasis is on communication as well as young people. Effects can
present problems and feel frustrating. Take your time and work through the
issues that arise one by one.
NewsBits: Super Tuesday! Those of you who watched the Democratic debates last
Thursday night know that only Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are left
standing on that platform promoting their agendas. The Republican debate last
Wednesday had four candidates left – John McCain, Mitt Romney, Ron Paul and
Mike Huckabee. So, let’s look at the
mood (Moon) of Super Tuesday when 22 states hold their primaries. The Moon is Void-of-Course
until 2:10PM ET, and then it enters Aquarius, which is the birth Moon of the
United States. The mood is one geared for a future that matches the
characteristics the United States was created for: freedom, truth, and
equality, logic and invention, friendship, common good, and playing well with
others! Aquarius is a fixed sign and its traditional ruler Saturn is concerned
with appropriate breaks from the past and negative habit patterns, but without
endangering basic human needs and equal rights. I think it will be a very close
race between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama; both represent the country’s
sentiments, with Obama inspiring people with a new deal, but lacking in experience
and Hillary, experienced but perhaps weighed down by her political baggage. On
the Republican side, it’s between McCain and Romney. McCain seems to have the
edge but is not as conservative in some areas as his party wants. Romney hasn’t
seemed to catch enough fire. It’s interesting to see what Pluto is doing in
each of the candidate’s charts. Unfortunately, the time of birth of many of the
candidates is uncertain, and so we are somewhat limited. In terms of direct
contact from Pluto @ 0-1deg., Obama has three exact contacts, Hillary one or
two (dependant on her time of birth), Huckabee two, McCain one, Romney and Paul,
none. I’m interpreting the Pluto aspects as the thrust and power to move
themselves forward and gather momentum, and or to garner and build the power
and support of the people.
