Planet Weather for the Week
of January 13, 2008
SkyWatch – Moon
phase of the week: 1/15 -- The Moon enters Her First Quarter phase at 2:46 PM,
at 25 degrees of Aries, rising around noon local time and remaining visible
until around midnight. Skywatching events of the week: 1/18 -- The waxing First
Quarter Moon passes the Pleiades ("Seven Sisters") star cluster at a
distance of about twice Her own diameter around 2 AM EST, when both the Moon
and the star cluster should still be visible low in the northwest. (A star
cluster is a kind of "mini-galaxy" that orbits our Milky Way main
galaxy.) 1/19 -- The Moon passes Mars at about this same apparent distance
around 7 PM ET, as seen from the lower 48 states of the US. High in the
northern latitudes -- Alaska and environs -- the Moon actually
"occults" or passes directly in front of Mars. Look high in the East
after sunset to witness this close encounter. Space news of the week: Like the
Moon, the Sun has His cycles too, although these are not cycles of light and darkness
(lucky for us!) but of activity and inactivity. Sunspots are relatively small,
dark, circular regions of lower solar temperature. They are also harbingers of
greater amounts of electromagnetic radiation and charged particle streams
emanating from the Sun. A new 11-year cycle of this kind of heightened solar
activity, bringing with it a higher risk of power and communications outages,
is now on its way with the appearance of the new cycle's first sunspot last
week. Go out! Look up!
Knowing when VOC Moons occur is key to
planning your successful week!
The Void-of-course (VOC) Moon is
a kind of limbo. As it reaches the end of a sign, the Moon makes no major
aspect to another planet before it enters the next sign. VOC is best for less
outcome-oriented activity, since VOC often means detours, distractions, drifting,
or delays. If you want specific outcomes, or if timeliness is critical, don’t
use a VOC Moon time. VOC is best for processing, imagining, creating, and open-ended
activities, like parties, research, or cleaning your desk/closet for instance!
It is said that when a new action is initiated during VOC, “nothing will come
of it,” or energies go in unplanned directions, which may not necessarily be
negative.

Week of 1/13/08 – Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
and Saturday are the most active energetically and potentially most productive days
– more Moon or planetary aspects for engagement and/or producing results. On 1/13/08,
the Moon is VOC/Pisces from 6:41PM to 7:23PM EST – on 1/15/08, VOC/Aries from
10:39PM to 11:13PM EST – on 1/17/08, VOC/Taurus from 9:05PM to 1:30AM EST
(1/18/08).
PlanetPatterns:
The following planetary energy patterns flavor the day
and are felt or experienced often hours before and after their exact
culmination. They remain effective, certainly until the next major planetary
pattern comes along to shift the energy gears.
Venus in mutable, fire Sagittarius
sextile (60deg.) Neptune in fixed, air Aquarius @ 20deg. on 1/16/08 @ 2:36PM
EST. Venus, the planet of love,
values and relationships is busy, busy, busy this week. First, this fiery and
generally enthusiastic and expansive Venus meets Neptune for the opportunity to
conjure up some magical idealism, creativity, and refreshing dreams of truth
and beauty. Perhaps you are yearning to travel or otherwise bring a new
experience into your life. There are opportunities to meet friends in fun and
laughter and join in some group activity.
Venus in mutable, fire Sagittarius opposite
(180deg.) Mars Rx in mutable, air Gemini @ 24deg. on 1/19/08 @ 10:10PM EST. Coming to meet Mars filled with the idealism and
imagination of its contact with Neptune, Venus may ask for things that Mars is
unwilling or unable to give. There is tension in this aspect, and the two
planets attempt to work through their differences in approach or values. The
contact sparkles and creates energy – doing something physical rather than
simply talking will alleviate some of the excess energy and spark that is
generated by this passionate desire to merge or unite and yet – respect
differences in approach or need.
NewsBits: Hillary Rallies in NH Primary
after ObamaRama! Much to the surprise of pundits everywhere, Hillary
won the day in New Hampshire. Of course, as an astrologer, seeing that the Moon
was Void-of-Course (VOC) that voting day from 6:37AM clear to the following
day, I knew that things would not shake out the way everyone was predicting.
The VOC Moon is certainly unpredictable and “moody,” not having any particular
planetary energy to hold on to. The VOC Moon floats freely and wanders or flows
here and there. It was interesting watching the commentators, who were completely
befuddled by the shift, and knowing what was behind the event. Many voters
stated that they made last minute decisions and exit polls did not tell the
real story. Hillary still has a challenge, since Obama was only trailing her by
three percentage points.
The following date of birth
is widely used for Hillary Clinton but the time of birth remains uncertain. She
was born on 10/26/47 @ 8:02AM, in Chicago, IL. The most obvious pattern in her
chart is a square between two of her three Scorpio planets and the South Node
(and possibly her Ascendant) and her three Leo planets. This chart dynamic
takes up five of her planets and provides intensity and drive in whatever
direction she chooses to take it. Her Mars exactly conjuncts Pluto, giving her
not only staying power but the ability to completely transform and reinvent
herself when necessary. She understands power with this aspect and also
intuitively and strategically with her Scorpio cluster. Mercury/Scorpio exactly
squares Saturn, which conveys a more serious way of communicating. She recognizes
the stakes and the obstacles all too well. In terms of her likability factor,
which is often tossed about in the media, Hillary was born with Venus/Scorpio
square Mars/Leo – this combination has strong desires but may try too hard and
lacks a natural smoothness. Venus/Scorpio is in its detriment, which can make
it act more defensively – she has learned about letting go and loss. This is a powerhouse
aspect along with other potent energies described earlier. The sheer energy
expressed or sensed just below the surface can intimidate others, or even make
them suspicious of her motives. This is the bane of strong Scorpionic energy in
any chart. When we look at her Moon, which has much to do with her public
appeal, we find it in sensitive Pisces, deeply caring, yet in another strong
square to Uranus/Gemini. She’s ahead of her time; she’s unconventional, she can
be abrupt, and at times, seems hard to reach emotionally. There’s so much power
and potential packed into this chart, she could do great things and has already
accomplished much, amidst personal turmoil and public scrutiny. Her trials by
fire may have left her wiser, and she is still here to talk about it. Her
Jupiter is in its own sign of Sagittarius, implying a generous side and an ability
to set high goals and shoot for them. No doubt she is spirited and capable of
envisioning a great future. Question is – will she be able to convince the
electorate in the important ways that will bring her the presidency?
Note: the birthtime given last week for Barak Obama
was an AM time. It is possible the time is PM. After more research, the most
accurate time will be published in PW.
